Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water
The vacation cruise industry is extremely profitable these days. I always assumed that they carried their waste back into port and had it disposed of expensively. Turns out, they get free dumping right in the ocean, just like they did in the 1800s. See here:
Pollution from cruise ships is a growing problem. Each day, a single cruise ship dumps an astonishing amount of pollution into our oceans, including:Yuck! Okay, so corporate evil is pretty much everywhere. We've got to add Carnival Cruise Lines to the list.
- 25,000 gallons of sewage from toilets;
- 143,00 gallons of sewage from sinks, galleys, and showers;
- 7 tons of garbage and chemical waste;
- 15 gallons of toxic chemicals; and
- 7,000 gallons of oily bilge water
