Literary pretension

From the book I'm reading, Dispalced Persons, Joseph Berger -- I know what he's saying, but I wouldn't have put it quite this way:
This thoroughly trivial event – bringing a cup of coffee and a seeded roll to a publisher’s pep talk – was like Proust’s famous madeleine: it had triggered for me the kinds of associations that rippled subversively throughout my days.
"...like Proust's famous madeleine..." You wish!
